Bari, 5 Giugno 2012 - Squadra che vince…si cambia! A parte i giochi di parole, è attraverso questa insolita ricetta, con la quale si sovvertono i valori di una famosa massima dello sport, che i Patriots proseguono la loro avventura nel Campionato di quest'anno. Superata non senza sforzo la fase preliminare (gli Achei ed i Dragons sono stati degli avversari particolarmente agguerriti in regular season), i baresi salpano verso i playoff e fanno salire a bordo una figura importante, alla quale affidano il compito di guidarli in questa scalata verso la meta più ambita. E' Wayne Anderson Jr, nuovo headcoach dei Patriots Bari, l'uomo di cui stiamo parlando. Il tecnico americano, originario della Florida, è arrivato da meno di un mese in Puglia e cosa hanno pensato bene di organizzare i suoi ragazzi come formale accoglienza, ma in grande stile? Una vittoria netta sul terreno di gioco casalingo contro un avversario gagliardo e mai domo ed uno score stellare (60 punti inflitti agli Achei), giusto per mettere in chiaro che i nero-oro quest'anno fanno sul serio e son pronti a giocarsela sul campo contro ogni altra realtà del torneo. Ne vedremo delle belle. Intanto non potevamo di certo farci sfuggire l'occasione di averlo come nostro ospite nel post-partita di domenica. Ecco le sue impressioni:

I thought that the Crotone Achei were a very physical team that played with a lot of heart. Their quarterback and starting running back are very athletic and tough. I went to Crotone last weekend to see the game with them and the Dragons to get a feel for them in person. It was a hard fought game by both teams, but I feel the play that change the game in our favor was Giuseppe Girardi's first of his two interceptions.
Sapevo bene che gli Achei Crotone sarebbero stati una squadra molto fisica…e che avrebbero giocato con tanto cuore. Il loro quarterback (Megna) e running back titolare (Pugliese) sono molto atletici e duri. Sono andato a Crotone lo scorso fine settimana per vedere la partita tra loro e i Dragons, giusto per toccare con mano che tipo di squadra fossero. Questa quindi è stata una partita molto combattuta da parte di entrambi i team…e son convinto che la giocata che ha dato una svolta alla partita in nostro favore sia stata il primo dei due intercetti di Giuseppe Girardi.
Which has been the secret of this great win?
I feel that the secret of the winning this game against Achei was it truly took a total team effort. I talked to the players about how important it is to play for each other and to play for the Patriots jersey. They believe in that. It is about team first.
Credo che il segreto dietro il successo in questa partita contro gli Achei sia stato il gioco di squadra, lo sforzo collettivo di tutto il team. Ho parlato con i giocatori a proposito di quanto sia importante giocare l'uno per l'altro e di giocare per la maglia dei Patriots. Loro ci credono. La questione è che…la squadra viene prima di ogni cosa.
So…you mean…there was no mvp in this game?…
Again, The MVP of the game was Team Patriots. I could go down the list of many players that made big plays for us today in all three phases of the game Offense, Defense and Special Teams. It is just real hard for me to single out a couple of players because it truly was a total team effort.
Ripeto, l'MVP del match son stati i Patriots. Tutti. Potrei buttar giù l'elenco di molti players che hanno fatto grandi giocate per noi oggi in tutti e tre i reparti, difesa attacco e special teams. E' davvero complicato per me individuare il nome di un paio di giocatori, perché è stato davvero un lavoro di squadra totale.
How would you rate your opponents' game? Your personal "congratulations" go to?..
I congratulate the Crotone Achei for their physical play and playing with a lot of heart. Their coach did a great job in getting them ready to play us.
Faccio i complimenti agli Achei Crotone per il loro gioco fisico e per averci messo il cuore. Il loro allenatore ha fatto un ottimo lavoro nel prepararli ad affrontarci.
Let's look a little on what happened this weekend. How would you rate the overall scores of this playoff round? Which results surprised you most?
I feel that the games in the first two rounds of the playoffs have been very competitive. The thing that surprises me a little is that the home teams are 13-2 in the first two rounds. It shows how important it is to be playing at home.
Credo che le partite nei primi due turni dei playoff siano state combattute. La cosa che mi sorprende un po' è che le squadre di casa abbiano vinto 13 partite su 15, nei primi due turni. Significa che giocare in casa è stato determinante.
Who, in your opinion, is the favorite team to win the NineBowl? Who do you see as a surprise instead?
It is my understanding that the Palermo Cardinals and the Cavallermaggiore Bills are the two big favorite's to win the NineBowl Championship. But I feel that our team could be a real dark horse in the race and surprise some people.
Mi sembra di capire che i Cardinals Palermo ed i Bills Cavallermaggiore sono le due grandi favorite per la vittoria del NineBowl. Ma credo che la nostra squadra possa davvero rivelarsi come la bestia nera di questa fase e regalare quindi qualche sorpresa..
What would you say about your season so far? How far can you go? Where can you get? At this point…you must dare…do you agree?
I feel that if we continue to play good solid fundamental football in all 3 areas that we could go deep into the playoffs. We have a good group of young talented guys with great veteran leadership.
Credo che se continuiamo a giocare un solido e buon football nei fondamentali in ogni reparto, allora possiamo dire la nostra, andando fino in fondo in questi playoffs. Abbiamo un buon gruppo di giovani ragazzi di talento guidati dalla ottima leadership dei veterani.
Do you think that..there is anyone, among your players, that could deserve a possible call-up in the national team…(especially among young players)?
I do feel that we have some good young players that could be a part of Team Blue. I feel that the coaching that they would receive and the experience they would have would be a great benefit to their development. Over the last five years I have been very humble about the players that I coached in 2008 with the Lazio Marines that have proudly represented Team Blue. It would be no different with my players here in Bari with the Patriots.

Credo che l'insegnamento che ne ricaverebbero e l'esperienza che potrebbero maturare sarebbero un grande beneficio per il loro sviluppo. Negli ultimi cinque anni sono stato molto umile a proposito dei giocatori che ho allenato nel 2008 con i Marines Lazio e che hanno poi orgogliosamente rappresentato il Blue Team. Non sarebbe diverso con i miei giocatori qui a Bari con il Patriots.
If you could get back to the beginning of the season…what would you change in your team?…where would you insist on more?...
Since I arrived in Bari on May 11th, It has been my philosophy not to change what had been successful for the team during the regular season, but make some improvements to what they were already doing. I learned a long time ago coming over and coaching in Europe that you truly coach to your player's strength's and not try to fit them in your own personal philosophy. You may just not have the players to fit what you personally want to do.
Da quando sono arrivato a Bari l'11 maggio, la mia filosofia è stata di non cambiare ciò che aveva avuto successo per la squadra durante la regular season, ma semplicemente apportare alcuni miglioramenti su quello che stavano già facendo. Ho imparato molto tempo fa, arrivando in Europa e cominciando ad allenare, che bisogna lavorare realmente sulla forza, sul valore dei propri giocatori e non cercare di adattarli necessariamente alla tua filosofia personale. Ti possono anche capitare giocatori che non per forza si adattano a ciò che tu personalmente hai intenzione di fare.
If you could steal a player (to an opposing team) and have him in your roster, who would you like?
I can honestly say that there is not a single player on another team that I would bring over to play for the Patriots. I am very greatful for the hard working players that I already have and I would not trade them for anyone.
Onestamente posso dire che non c'è un singolo atleta di un'altra squadra che porterei a giocare coi Patriots. Sono molto grato agli instancabili ragazzi che ho già e non li cambierei proprio con nessuno.
Now the playoff board says "Steelers Terni". What kind of game will it be?
I think that it will be a very entertaining game for the fans to watch when the Patriots and the Steelers hit the field in Terni in two weeks.
Penso che quando i Patriots e gli Steelers scenderanno in campo a Terni tra due settimane…sarà una partita molto divertente da vedere per i tifosi...

I can honestly say that there is not a single player on another team that I would bring over to play for the Patriots. I am very greatful for the hard working players that I already have and I would not trade them for anyone.
